The Wightman Family Burying Ground
Over the years, Birdella (Birdie) Wightman Corbitt had seen references
to a family cemetery, near the old home of George Wightman, the emigrant,
in North Kingstown, near Providence, Rhode Island. Birdie and her husband,
Bob, started looking for the cemetery in the fields near the old home, and
finally found traces of gravestones, covered with weeds and overgrowth.
Determined to restore the site, the dedicated couple moved from their home
in New Jersey to Seekonk to be near the cemetery, and proceeded to uncover,
clean up and restore the site. It was put on the Rhode Island Historical
Register, and provided protection to be kept free of development.

After years of dedicated service, Birdie and Bob Corbitt have decided
to turn over management of the old family burying ground.

Paul Clark Wightman, his good wife, Joan, and their children Morgan
and John Paul, have volunteered to look after the "Wightman Family
Burying Ground". Paul is an attorney and the family lives in Brewster,
right at "the elbow" on Cape Cod.
