"Wyken Manor" and the "Old Grange"

Wyken Manor (different from Wykin Hall)
Over the years, in many publications (and accepted as common knowledge), were references to "Wykin Hall" and "Wykin Manor", as though they were one and the same.

On a recent trip to Wykin, it was pointed out to me by Richard Sheppard, current owner of Wykin Hall, that a building up the street less than a quarter mile, was known in the locality as the old "Wykin Manor".

Substance is added to this conjecture by comparing "The Old Grange" at Burbage (see below -- scroll down), which was the home of Thomas Wightman of Burbage and father of William Wightman of Wykin Hall. There is great similarity in the design and the appearance of the two old buildings, that apparently were built at approximately the same time.

This was probably Thomas Wightman's first home, before moving to the "Moat House".
