Wightman

Age 78, of Henderson, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 1999, at Memorial Healthcare Center.
Mr. Wightman was a Librarian at Owosso High School for 30 years. Prior to being at Owosso High School, he taught at Perry High School for six years as a commercial teacher.
Memorial services will be held at Jennings-Lyons Funeral Chapel Saturday, October 23, 1999, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Jean Scroggins will officiate. The burial will be private with only the family present at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Friday evening 7 to 9 p.m. at Jennings-Lyons Chapel.



Mr. Wightman was born in New Haven Township, April 30, 1921, the son of Floyd B. and Tessie (Bishop) Wightman. He had resided most of his life in the Henderson area.
On June 29, 1946, he married Jean E. Gerstner in Garden City, Michigan.
He was a 1938 graduate of Owosso High School, 1942 graduate of Eastern Michigan University, and in 1964 from the University of Michigan with a Masters' Degree.
He was a life member of NEA and MEA, and also a 4-H leader.
Survivors include wife, Jean Wightman of Henderson, daughter, Dianne (LaVerne) Bailey of South Lyon, sons, Gerald Wightman of Misawa, Japan, Richard (Mary) Wightman, of Beaufort, South Carolina; grandchildren, Nikki (Jim) McEvers of Redford, Michigan, Nadine Wightman of Scottsdale, Arizona, Selena Wightman of Charlottesville, Virginia, brothers Ward (Tillie) Wightman of Venice, Florida, Dale (Elinor) Wightman of Owosso.
He was predeceased by his parents and one brother-in-law.
Memorials may be made to Owosso Public School Libraries, or the Henderson United Methodist Church.

NOTE: Among members of the large extended Wightman Family, Wade was known as a meticulous researcher and compiler of family records.
He was the author of the books The Wightman Heritage and The Wightman Ancestry.
