THOMAS WIGHTMAN (1480-1568)

Thomas Wightman sold the manor and moved to Burbage in the same shire (or county).

He married:
(1) Mary, daughter of Robert Reynolds of Branshire, Leicestershire
         and
(2) Dame Margaret Constable.

Thomas Wightman of Burbage lived at the "Old Grange." From the portion that is still standing, it appears to have been of considerable size. The remains of the paneling, timbered ceilings and other features suggest an elegance found in the best manor houses of the period. The Wightmans had tracts of land throughout the whole locality comprising Burbage, Wykin, and Hinckley. By 1600 nearly every village and hamlet in the region had come to know the Wightman name either as resident or as non-resident owners.
